Immigration law will forever be fast changing under its current form. We at Chavez Immigration Law (CIL) make it a priority on keeping up with the latest news and changes in the law daily. It is important to consult with a licensed attorney about your immigration case, because what may have worked for a family member or friend in the past may not necessarily work for you.

Please be careful with whom you choose to move forward with in representing you in your immigration case. “Notarios” are NOT licensed to practice immigration law in the United States and shouldn’t be advising anyone on their immigration case. We know that affordable representation has become difficult to come by, but please do your part in trying to find an office that works for you.

Fernando Chavez

Attorney Chavez has dedicated his legal career to the practice of immigration law before USCIS and the Immigration Courts. He began exclusively representing detained immigrants with their removal defense cases in Georgia detention centers during his time with Southern Poverty Law Center, a non-profit based out of Montgomery, AL.

Upon leaving the Southern Poverty Law Center, Attorney Chavez took a job to become the Legal Services Director for Refugee & Immigration Services at Lutheran Services Florida, a non-profit based out of Tampa, FL. Attorney Chavez dedicated his time at Lutheran Services Florida on educating immigrant communities across the state of Florida, all while overseeing a large legal team and daily legal department operations.

Vanessa Halasz

Meet Vanessa Halasz, the newest immigration attorney at our firm. Born in Colombia and having immigrated to the United States at the age of 10, Vanessa understands firsthand the challenges and aspirations of individuals navigating the immigration system. Her personal background gives her a unique perspective and empathy when working with clients who are going through similar journeys.

Vanessa pursued her education at the University of South Florida (USF), where she majored in Sociology and Criminology. Thereafter, Vanessa pursued her legal education at Stetson College of Law, and graduated in 2022. During her time at Stetson, she gained experience in the Family Law and Immigration Law Unit at Gulfcoast Legal Services, where she predominately worked on U visa cases.

Beyond her legal pursuits, Vanessa finds joy in various hobbies, including running, cooking, art, music, hiking, and traveling.

Top priorities at CIL

Communication & Education

Proper communication with our clients is one of our top priorities at Chavez Immigration Law. Not only communication in the sense of updating our clients with important news and information concerning their case immediately, but also having our clients understand the anatomy of their immigration case to the best of their ability.

Nothing can ever be guaranteed in immigration law. It is our job at Chavez Immigration Law to educate clients on what it takes to win immigration relief before USCIS and the Immigration Court. By educating clients on immigration law, we hope to set proper expectations for the duration of their case.

Immigration law is a very fickle beast to undertake alone. We want clients to be armed with as much knowledge about their case as possible.
